Santa: A Dream and a Different Road

Ho ho ho! Now do you remember sneaky old King Herod, and that sly little smile of his? He'd asked the wise men to come back and report exactly where the child was, pretending he wanted to worship Him too. But of course, Herod had no such kindness in his heart. He had other, darker plans entirely.

Well, my friends, here is where the story takes a wonderful turn. Because you simply cannot outwit heaven.

After the wise men had visited the child and presented their gifts, they were warned in a dream not to go back to Herod. Just like that — a quiet message in the night, slipping past all of Herod's scheming. So instead of returning to the king's palace as they'd been asked, the wise men packed up their camels and went home to their own country by another route entirely. A different road. They simply slipped away, and Herod never got his report.

Now I find this part absolutely delightful, and I'll tell you why. Herod thought he was the cleverest fellow around. He had his palace, his power, his spies, his big important throne. He'd cooked up his sneaky little plan and he was quite pleased with himself. And yet, with one simple dream — no army, no battle, no grand confrontation — all his scheming came to nothing. The wise men just quietly went a different way, and that was that.

Isn't that something? Sometimes the mightiest plans of the most powerful people are undone by the gentlest of means. A whisper in a dream. A change of direction. A quiet choice to take a different road. Herod had all the power the world could offer, and it wasn't enough to stop what heaven had set in motion.

There's a lesson tucked in here for all of us, my friends. When you find something precious and true in this life, you have to protect it. The wise men had found the King they'd traveled so far to see. They weren't about to hand that wonder over to a jealous, scheming ruler. So they listened to that warning, they trusted it, and they took the safer road home.

And here's another thing worth noticing. The wise men were willing to change their plans. They'd intended to go back through Jerusalem. But when they got new guidance, they didn't stubbornly stick to the old plan just because it was the plan. They adjusted. They were flexible. They listened.

That's wisdom, too. Not just knowing things, but being willing to change course when you ought to. The wise men were wise right to the very end of their journey.

So old Herod sat in his palace, waiting for a report that would never come, while the wise men trotted happily home by a different road, their hearts full from what they'd seen. Power lost. Wonder won.

That's a good way for that part of the story to end, if you ask Santa.

Merry Christmas, everyone! Ho ho ho! https://santaclaus.top/a-dream-and-the-road-to-egypt/
